Some wonderful examples of artwork from the talented residents of South London.
Once again, we had a lovely afternoon of drawing at the Elizabeth James Gallery in South Norwood on Saturday.
As with the kids' drawing workshop on Wednesday, we began by drawing actual still-life objects, using charcoal and chalk.
I was inspired by one of the children on Wednesday to follow up the charcoal drawing with a colourful session using chalk pastels to draw vintage magazine covers.
(So thank you Janelle for your idea to draw fashions from the 60s, the adults loved it!)
We drew items with large, clear shapes...
...and practised drawing overlapping objects...
...and using white chalk for highlights...
...drawing the shapes as large as possible to make the most of the space to experiment with shading and mark-making techniques.
We had a lot of fun looking at the covers of vintage magazines and drawing the covers.
with a special guest appearance from Vincent van Gogh...
...and Diana Ross!
Join us for the last 2 wokshops of the summer:
lino cutting for kids (on August 7th) and lino cutting for adults (August 10th).
